For years we thought that black was the only way to wear leather, but NYFW approved the new update on colored leather options. Leather, considered the oldest material used for clothing, is not a fabric as its commonly thought, but derives, rather, from animal skins. The origin of leather has played a crucial role in societal evolution. Contemporary fashion brands understand the importance of studying the past to predict future fashion trends, and now it seems difficult to imagine a world where leather will cease to remain a fashion staple.
The industry is shifting away from traditional leather alternatives to an eco-friendly substitute that doesn’t involve animals. like vegan leather. but what exactly is vegan leather? In Milan, designers have made their own alterations to the timeless look, ditching the cliche motorcycle leather jacket and reviving old silhouettes with a touch of leather. Miuccia Prada put a colorful twist on leather outerwear at the Prada Fall/Winter show. Puffer jackets with the sophisticated shape of blazers came down the runway, paired with punchy bold colorful ensembles. Shiney patent coats and vests offers a stylish option for the colder months. Coats with large, puffy sleeves in bold colors took the classic leather jacket style to new heights. A simple trench has now turned into the ultimate fashion statement in Sunshine yellow or forest green layered over dresses and skirts.
Leather doesn’t just come in a form of jacket or pants but a dress, city shorts, pleated skirts, overcoats, blouses and many more. Leather is having a big moment this winter season. Black, brown, white leather is pretty classic, but how about Chery red, Chive, Earthy beige, Olive or even Burnt orange?
