Fall is coming in hot, and so are the new fall/winter trends that will have a hold on the season. I’m well aware that it’s 90° to 100° through much of the country right now, but that means the summer is peaking and will begin to taper off even before we know it. If you ask me, it’s never too early to be planning ahead. We may still be months away from the start of the next season, but that doesn’t mean you can’t think about building a fall wardrobe. Let’s dive into the fall/winter 2023 collections and pull out the season’s major trends.
Florals took on a faintly gothic tinge on the runways, while sheer, lingerie-style fabrics and knickers worn with tights made a “woke up like this” statement. Shimmering metallics prevailed, with draped liquid lamé a welcome addition to sequins. and the best way to ease into autumn when the mercury starts to drop: throw on a dramatic scarf. Remember blanket dressing from last winter? Drape a tartan blanket across your blazer and secure it with a gold pin, invest in a brooch in the shape of a miniature trumpet, like those at Louis Vuitton, it’s always a good idea to accessories the long, woolen scarf that you may already have hanging in your closet.

Winter Florals –
Florals have taken on a faintly gothic feel for fall. We’ve seen, Virginie Viard placing a snow-white, supersized iteration of the flower at the center of her black Chanel autumn/winter catwalk. The Brobdingnagian bloom loomed large in the collection, too, comprising silk brooches on the lapels of black coats and prints on fluid monochrome dresses. While Burberry looked gently grungy.
Lingerie –
Will you trade your trousers for an extra five minutes in bed? This is sleeping optimization as you’ve never seen it before. The Miu Miu models got dressed in a hurry this season, so much so that the waistband of tights was yanked up over cardigans and unkempt puffs of bedhead frizz bobbed as they walked. Though it didn’t matter, because their knickers were sequined:)
White Shirts –
White shirts have always been a wardrobe binder, but this season they transition from chorus line to spotlight in the capsule of classics. Take them long and lean, via the gown-like styles sweeping the floor just as we saw at Valentino, opt for boyish fit and pair with a chic miniskirt like Prada, or enjoy the uncomplicated charm of a pinstriped style paired with boxers at Bottega Veneta.
Precious Metallics –
Make an entrance in a sequined metallic dress, or an exit in a fuzzy metallic coat – choice is yours. We all know by now that sequins/metallics are not just for your eveningwear choices for Christmas party season, you can wear them all year around. As far as the shades are concerned, opt for black, grey, navy and chocolate brown.
Black Coat –
Next season’s key wardrobe investment set the pulse racing, there’s something about a strictly tailored black coat that feels absolutely right again. As per Westwood’s maxim: “Buy less, choose well, make it last.” Basically, pick wisely, and you’ll be wearing yours for years to come.
And that’s the end:)
