The truth is it’s not a quick solution when it comes to the hair care, considering I color my hair every now and then, and prefer cool blonde which takes lot of slow and steady steps to go from jet black to cooler side and I also use hot tools on a weekly basis. The more you play with it the more steps ad up into the taking-care routine. Naturally thick and long hair run in my family, it’s in our genes, my mom had beautiful long hair in her youth, I also had super healthy, long & wavy hair while growing up, thanks to her, she used to make several homemade hair masks on Sundays for me, the aloe mask, mixture of some flower and aloe vera, etc. and cutting hair short was never the option as a kid:) like big NO-NO. I still remember asking permission from my mom for going shoulder length short for my 10th birthday, lol. Even today the first thing she would notice is my hair and then the other things:)
When it comes to hair, I feel a specific gravitational pull towards the new products, the science behind it, new hair color trends, styles and cuts. Even though I follow pretty much the same regime/style all these years, it’s always good to have the information. I am more into the hair game than make up any day. Here are some steps that I strictly follow –
- I wash my hair only “once” a week. I don’t want to strip the natural oil from my hair strands by washing them very often. In summer its twice but I try to stick to the once-a-week routine as much as possible.
- I use non scented pure cold pressed coconut oil a night before I plan to wash my hair. I like to keep the oil warm and message it on to the scalp.
- I use shampoos that have less to no harmful ingredients such as Sulphate, Silicone, Paraben etc. I wouldn’t say completely fragrance free, as I prefer little fresh scent to my hair products. I use two types of shampoos; one is for nourishing which includes some vegan clean brands as well and second is for color treated hair which I alternate.
- A scalp scrub or a treatment once in 15 days after shampooing and before conditioning the hair. It’s the best way to take care of the scalp skin so the hair grows faster.
- I feel masks do better job than conditioners. I use different types of hair masks depending on my mood, lol, after shampooing and keep it for 10-15 minutes. On weekends I try to keep the hair mask for an hour long or so. The trick is, once you are done using shampoo, towel dry the hair first and then apply the hair mask; tie the hair up, come out of the shower, do your things for next hour or so and then go back to wash the hair, and then finish up with your body cleansing. Have recently added new hair mask from K18 into my routine, visit their website to see how to use it. It’s a game changer.
- Aquis hair drying turban after the shower for drying hair instead of what you use for the body, as traditional towels tend to create frizz because of the friction which can cause pulling, snagging.
- A hair cream/dry oil/serum on wet/towel dried hair.
- “NEVER” use hair dryer immediately. I let my hair dry naturally.
- Next day, first I apply heat protecting spray/cream and then lightly straighten my hair with flat iron, finishing off with some dry oil to the ends.
- I use Dyson air wrap with the hair curling tong attachment on third or fourth day on my already straightened hair, depending on if I am going out for dinner or have a photoshoot or I just keep it straight.
- I always keep dry shampoo in my handbag if I am going to be out in the sun for a longer time or after intense sweaty workout, spray little at the roots and you will see the kind of volume you get immediately. There are only two dry shampoos I swear by, linking them below.
- Clean hair comb/brush/tools/towels and the pillowcases on a weekly basis.
This is my regular routine which I follow at home, with few other steps with my hair stylist Celena, the person who is behind my shining hair color and sexy blow outs during festivals and special occasions. I do get a haircut or just the ends cut every three months with my hair color touch ups. I have been coloring my hair since 2012 and I can surely say that, if you take a good care after coloring your hair, no damage will happen. I never experienced losing hair because of the hair color. It also depends what hair dye your stylist uses, make sure it’s ammonia free. And please “NEVER” use those hair dye kits which you can use at home. Your hair will thank you:) I also don’t believe using Heena for the hair, I feel it sucks out the natural oil from your entire hair shaft. Speaking from my own experience but if you think it is doing good to you, do it. Everybody has different hair types as well as different experiences.
There are so many hair products out there on the market today that can help you achieve your hair goals, let’s just say there’s no lack of options out there. That being said, you must have heard of taking vitamins/hair supplements for hair health is a big thing in the beauty industry, and there are plenty of options available, at least here in the US. I will link below, the one that I used for a month or so but unfortunately my skin started breaking out due to biotin presence in the tablets. So, I stopped taking those, but I have friends who have seen the best results and absolutely swear by this supplement. Also, the trend of sleeping on silk pillowcases and silk hair turbans at night to keep your hair shiny and frizz free, well, I can’t speak much about that as I have not seen a big difference on how my hair look the next morning, but I like using tiny silk hair ties just for fun. Also, if you use gua-sha stone for the face, the similar kinds in comb shape are now available to massage your scalp to promote hair growth, I haven’t tried it yet but looking forward to. There is one more thing I would love to mention is the hard water damage. Yes, it’s true, again speaking from my own experience the hard water totally damages the hair, I lost a lot of hair volume due to hard water when I moved here. Hence, I like to keep my hair short, as long hair don’t look good without the volume. If you get hard water at your place, try getting water softener system too, it will be super beneficial for health of the hair.
That pretty much sums it up all. Hope you enjoyed reading!! Linking all the products that I use below; you can directly purchase by clicking either on the picture or “BUY”. Happy Scrolling!!
