One statement at a time

Into all blingy, shiny, flashy or printed things? Me too 😉. When we talk about one statement piece, there is one thumb rule of it, only one piece must stand out from the whole look. If you are considering blingy sequin dress, adding muted accessories or an outerwear can bring the attention to your sequin dress. If printed jacket is something you are going for, then make sure rest of the clothing is plain. Playing with different materials is always fun and it also creates effortlessly chic look. E.g. – the metallic pants can be paired with baggy oversized cable knit sweater, meaning mixing two different textures (leather & knit). And by adding a basic non-shiny knitwear, your pants are catching the eyes. Understanding patterns, colors, and textures is important. Because mixing them in a right way can create smart and bold looks.

Metallic pants, skirts, shorts can go with plain solid shirts, neon colors or even solid sweaters. You can also play with textures by adding furry pieces. It can take the look to the next level. If the outerwear (jacket or blazer) is going to be your statement piece, then make sure rest is muted down. One more option is going for completely tonal outfit and adding jazzy, blingy accessories; meaning picking one color outfit, (doesn’t have to be exact same colored top-bottom but must be from one color family) and then adding metallic heels, flats, boots, neck pieces, statement earrings, or a blingy handbag to complete the drama.

Trends are for the knowledge. It is always good to have information about what is currently trending but that doesn’t mean you have to follow. It’s a personal choice, there are people who don’t follow the latest fashion very often but love to educate themselves about it. Often Fashion Trends are considered as a western culture only. But if you know how to incorporate what is trending with your own style then you already know the game. As the famous saying goes, Fashion has to do with the ideas, and it is true. I think fashion starts when you feel confident in your outfit. And comfort = confidence. Style has no definition, It can be anything from a saree to a suit or a salwar kameez to a bikini.

Speaking of one statement piece, adding too many jewelry items with an already heavy traditional outfit can be little over the top. If the outfit is pretty heavy (in terms of the kind of traditional work it has) then muting down the jewelry/accessory can let your outfit speak for itself. Adding too many pieces can confuse the whole appearance (unless it is your own wedding). If the saree is plain try adding a statement blouse or vice versa. If you are someone who prefers denim and kurta, you can add a statement earring along with cute little statement potli (a type of handbag) or a traditional thread work vest or even a pair of blingy jootis (a type of footwear).

The first step is to understand, what is it that you want to speak from the whole look that you have selected. Sometimes it can be the makeup also. Then the key is to keep the whole clothing, accessory part on the muted side to let your eyes/lips do the talking😉
