For years the rule has been that a bold print, let alone several together, is strictly for special occasions. But not anymore. If there’s been one significant change in fashion, it’s that glorious colorful prints, mixed together or splashed all over, clashed and matched, have become part of our everyday.
It happened gradually. Labels such as Rixo whose dresses mix up leopard print, florals, and spots; from Thebe Magugu to Simone Rocha; Nicolas Ghesquire at Louis Vuitton, many presented collections with wild, wonderful prints on the runways. Stripes are here to stay. Horizontal or vertical, thick or thin, the classic universally stylish print illustrates the movement and the potential of the timeless pattern while also proving its place in the winter season.
2. Classic Plaid –
A true classic loved by hipsters, prepsters, and dads alike. You would hardly find someone who doesn’t own at least one plaid shirt. Today, plaid has gone through so many iterations that it can and has been worn literally in any way imaginable. Jacket shirts, pleated skirts, pants, overcoats etc. The pattern can say whatever the wearer wants depending on how it is styled, since plaid used to be the uniform of rebel style also known as “grunge” style back in 90’s.
3. Argyle –
A pattern made of diamonds or lozenges, meaning a design of a diamond used all over the material. Most argyle pattern contains layers of overlapping motifs, adding a sense of three-dimensionality, movement, and texture. An overlay of intercrossing diagonal lines.
The print is highly fashionable yet classy looking making it a must-have piece of the season.
4. Bright Tie-Dye –
The historic origins of tie-dye trace way back to the traditional color dyeing techniques used for centuries in countries like India, Indonesia, Peru and Japan. This beautiful print has been a form of cultural expression crafted in countless different shapes and patterns across the world.
Back in 70’s Tie-Dye was widely associated to the Hippie movement as its psychedelic form became dominant in music festivals. The era’s tie-dye was electric, bold, and in bright hues, often taking the popular swirl form. The trend has been impactful enough throughout this year’s fashion runways, from brands like Dior to Givenchy. The vibrant design has been a huge inspiration for new collection, from multi-colored ombre stripes to funky bursts of color. The trend appeared to be vanishing but has come back in full-force each time.
5. Artsy –
An art print is a printed reproduction of an original work of art. It can be printed using several different printing methods and on a variety of different print materials. The big and bold artsy prints are back for this winter.
6. Moody dark bloom –
Dark florals are suitable for colder months. Not the typical soft florals that we know, this time it is all about florals with some gothic touch. Mixing wild florals especially the red roses printed on fabrics like velvet or silk inspired by medieval gothic era. Its time to look for darker, moodier blooms. For maximum visual presence wear dark florals with moody colors such as plum, midnight blue, olive green.
7. Gradient –
Like any other 90’s trend crop tops, scrunchies, chokers the one trend that is making noise this season is gradient. A gradual blending from one color to another also known as color transitions. The eye-catching energy of the colors makes them stand out and helps to elevate the whole look.
Call it maximalism or living for the moment, everything must spark joy this season, so don’t hold back, don’t keep anything for the “perfect moment”. Prints are no longer only for special occasions.
