With the help of warmer layers (sweaters, jackets, etc.) and fall ready shoe styles (sneakers, boots), long skirts have easily become a chic transitional piece. Basics can often be described as the true backbones of a wardrobe because of their versatility and ability to be mixed and matched with a variety of other items. While there is a slew of classic skirt styles that you might already have in your wardrobe, like white full-length voluminous skirt, denim skirt etc. but there are few more forward skirt styles that are noteworthy. and there is an option to fit every personal style.
It wouldn’t be a fall report without a hint of denim, and it is safe to say that denim maxi skirts are here to stay for the rest of the year (and likely beyond). This season, there’s a focus on low-rise skirts and Y2K-inspired denim tints. There is another preppy style which is officially giving way to a longer version that feels just as academic and easier to wear, yes, pleated midi skirts are set to be a major trend for fall and winter, and they look especially good with knee-high boots and classic loafers. Miniskirts are hardly new, but they’re still very much around in simple, tailored versions. Think of these new menswear minis like the skirt version of your favorite trousers. The most 2023 way to wear them is with flat shoes like loafers, ballet flats, and sneakers.
At Tory Burch’s S/S runway collection, the gauzy sheer skirts that the designer offered up was an obsession. Whether your layer a long sheer skirt over a solid-colored miniskirt or embrace a full see-through moment, let Tory Burch looks should serve as your main point of inspiration. Flowy white skirts were everywhere this summer, but as we move closer to fall, they show no signs of slowing down. Instead of putting the boho styles away, fashion people are simply finding new ways of wearing them to maximize their shelf lives in cooler weather. I still can’t see a drapey hemline without thinking of the early 2000s. The fashion crowd has been reintroducing us to asymmetric silhouettes called as “handkerchief hems”, in fresh ways that feel very 2023.
On its fall runway, Prada sent out a number of midi skirts with a very 1950s-inspired A-line silhouette. The voluminous shapes are a dramatic departure from the streamlined column skirts and micro minis that have largely defined skirt trends until now, but these retro midis feel undeniably fresh. Fashion people are already mimicking the runway by styling the skirts with simple knits, blazers and polished kitten heels.
The options below fall in the basics category and have that versatility factor, the selects aren’t fleeting and will remain relevant for seasons to come. Fall 2023 is the season of the skirts, mark the words. Happy Scrolling!!
