It’s no secret that French women possess a knack for a polished style that reads as effortless and cool. Over the years, they really refine their personal sense of style with wardrobes stocked with incredible closet essentials, French women learn to identify their style codes early, and while they rarely deviate from them, they’re constantly attentive to new trends and modern silhouettes and make adjustments to keep their outfits looking current. They surely know about which building blocks will last for many seasons ahead, so it’s no surprise you’ll spot many of them wearing the same pieces over and over again. Quality over quantity obviously.

French girls are my best source of information; they just know what’s up. When my mind started to wander into a state of curiosity about accessories I had to dial-up an office colleague (who lives in Paris) for a quick chat. She described what French really think about certain accessories, you’d find many of them in your closet already. As you know, many accessories are functional, while others merely add a stylish touch to an outfit. Some, of course, are both functional and stylish. Many of the accessories favored by French people are both, and all are in step with their signature classic aesthetic.

I spent a lot of time scrolling through photos of French people and following are the pieces I found so often in chic Parisian photos.

A French person wearing a neck scarf may sound cliche on paper, but the fact of the matter is they really do wear them.

It’s commonplace to see people in France carrying raffia totes large enough for a trip to the market, particularly in the spring and summer. Raffia happens to be a major trend this season.
