Every Summer, there’s always a shoe style that takes over our collective IG feeds, making it impossible for us to ignore it. And while last year’s was Fisherman Sandals, there’s a new footwear obsession in town – mesh flats. You might have come across the see-through design via the popular Dear Frances IG ad or spotted it while browsing your favorite online retailers. One of the many perks of the see-through style becoming more and more popular is that a lot more options are available at every price point. Another reason is mesh flats go great with everything from dresses to jeans. Jennifer Lawrence was recently spotted in Alaia version, and a simple scroll through IG will demonstrate influencers and A-listers alike are picking up a pair. Although it’s a rather demanding style in that you should probably have a fresh pedicure when rocking them, there’s something alluring about having some extra air on your feet during hot city days without exposing yourself fully in a sandal or flip-flop. When new trends seemingly appear out of nowhere, they’re generally a metamorphosis of an exciting style that has developed and redesigned to form the new hot style. And mesh shoe trend is definitely that. The first sign we had that this shoe would take off was a crystal-embellished pair by Khaite that began to be spotted on IG. Since then, there’s been a slow and steady rise of styles appearing, and now we’re officially declaring it a trend. Taking its foundations from the success of the ballet flat, our clear infatuation of delicate footwear has been translated into the semi-sheer shoes that we’re seeing take hold. Refined, barely-there styles are a big feature in all footwear right now, and few are as minimalist as the sock-like mesh shoe.
